also,
icerocket.com used to be far and away the fastest, with google-like results, but seems now to have collapsed to blogs

Don't like either of them =[
There was a really good Flash-driven search engine that I posted on here ages ago, but I can't remember what it was called now.

UNGOOGLABLE BAND NAMES
The Curse of The The
Recently we've been listening to the The The album, Mind Bomb. It's great - completely mental and oddly contemporary with its songs about Islam rising and waging war on Christians.
When we get into a record, we like to google about and get a bit of background info.
But poor old The The. "The" is a stop word, i.e. a word that search ngines mostly ignore as being irrelevant.
So googling for The The doesn't find the band.
Typing "The The" into iTunes doesn't find the MP3s.
Looking for The The on Amazon doesn't let you buy the CDs either.
We wonder how many sales they've lost because they've got a name that search engines don't like?
The The. Condemned to cultural irrelevancy.
All because of a silly name.

Interestingly, PreviewSeek returns results for The The.

Very nice, but it wasn't what I asked for.
?
you didn't actually "ask for" anything, but your quote implied you couldn't search for "the the" on google; my link demonstrated you can.

Actually, you searched for
"the the" when the article said to search for
the the.
pfft
they use their quotation marks as and when it suits them
googling for The The...

OK, first of all, 'it wasn't what I asked for' is a Vic Reeves quote, and therefore I claim artistic license for using it.
but your quote implied you couldn't search for "the the" on google; my link demonstrated you can.
The quote (which, incidentally was forwarded to me by the same guy who pointed me to iamcal in the first place) said "googling for The The doesn't find the band." That doesn't imply you can't search for it, it states that it doesn't
find the band.
pfft
anyone who VOLUNTARILY watches vic reeves has by definition ceded any judgement in the matter
Wow you don't like Vic Reeves, you hadn't heard of Mel and Sue and you hate Peter Kaye and all on the same day. Anything you do like?
Oh yeah I'd forgotten, anyone who doesn't find EXACTLY the same things as you funny, must be wrong. Personal opinions are for losers.
If only we were all like you Salty the world would be a better place. We could all stop enjoying things that you don't like and spend our time making tediously obscure coding references instead.
Note to self: don't bother sending YDKJ to Salty, he probably won't like/get it.

There's a story there, but I'm not sure I want to hear it.

Actually, the first time I saw 'Big Night Out' I thought it was dreadful, and then I realised that
that was the whole point. It was one of those 'so bad that it's good' kinda thing. But I enjoyed that more than anything he's done since.

DONKEH.

Actually, this reminds me of a story. When Mrs B was 19, she moved from Coventry to Norwich, and thus had a thick midlands accent. Which was funny to the kids in Norwich, especially due to Vic and Bob's 'Slade In Residence' sketch, which she'd never seen. So for years, her friends made her say certain lines about cupasoup and such for a bit of a giggle. Up until I told her recently, she didn't know why this happened. Best bit was though, her bloke at the time was called Dave Hill (also the same of said cupasoup-making Slade member).
Also, as she was never into Vic and Bob (but I am), she was telling me about when she was out drinking with some people, and one of them was 'on their show once'. I asked for a description etc. Turned out it was Uncle Peter himself. Awesome.
There's also another story about my boss stalking Vic and Bob and Miles Hunt from the Wonderstuff across Cornwall in 1993 but it's not as good.

Hmmm, Uncle Peter was (imo) the worst bit of the show. I mean, a balm pot coming on and saying 'Donkeh' maybe funny once, but it's not worth repeating.
