i was just reminded that something i love about england is its wealth of hilarious place names.

on the same googlemap as where i'm heading tonight for xmas is the delightful Snodland
maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=sn...

my previous favourites were great places for zooming thru/stopping for lunch in back when i had my bicycle and would go for fast twisty runs thru the essex countryside.
there was Ugley
maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Ug...

and just to the west of it was Nasty
maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=na...

"how was your ride?"
"it turned ugley then nasty"
"good, then?"
"yup"

what are other good'uns?

Well, there's Unthank, in Cumbria, and my own home town of Chorlton-cum-Hardy, and before that I lived in Didsbury, all of which are nice quaint names.

I used to live near Wyre Piddle and I have a friend who lives in Pity Me. My Grandad was born near Wetwang.

I'm moving to Canada in August and that's full of stupid place names. London, Stratford, Grimsby, Windsor, Sheffield. In fact, I don't think they have any place names of their own.
