I went into an Apple store today to see what could be done about my iPod that's HDD fucked up less than a week out of warranty and was told I'd need to get an appointment to see "Genius". As I got this information from the Security fella I thought it was an amusing name he'd given a certain member of staff. Turns out I'd misheard him and the Apple store actually term all their technical staff as "Genius". Lovely, if the bloke I spoke to hadn't just told me that the HDD was fucked and that it was out of warranty. The bloke even said the scuffs on the backplate, pretty obviously caused by abrasion of some sort (in my case putting in a pocket with change before I decided to get a case) as "obvious signs of droppage". I did drop it the day I got it onto a very hard concrete floor and I'm not saying it wasn't a contributing factor into the short life of the drive but didnt make an external mark at all. What gets me, though, is that they call their staff "Genius".

Chick: "So, what do you do for a living?"
Genius: "Oh I'm an instore Genius for Apple"
Chick: "Wow! What does that entail?"
Genius: "Well, I check warranties and reset firmware"
Chick: "Cool. We could be the parents of a super-race!"

if an Apple Genius and a blonde haired, blue eyed member of the opposite sex mated, maybe they would spawn the Master Race?

"opposite sex" ?

that's male

c'mon, be serious.

and yeah, sul, the "genius" aspect has a lot more to do with the individuals' desire to start the day with a group hug and a chant than their actual Mac ability, awareness, or keenness.

i shit you not.

indication:
the bulk of the UK's mac detail knowledge is embedded in the MUGs' constituents.
all MUG applicants were excluded from hiring.

many london mac gurus of 15+ years' experience were knocked back, because "they didn't know enough".

because the tests asked for incoherent ranting, not mac/tech knowledge.

many MUGgers who've gone thru the Apple Store have made a point of loudly correcting the "Apple Geniuses"' advice.
