I just saw a barman (ex-barmanager of the best dive in SE1) I know get fleeced on "The Real Hustle" on BBC3. As I haven't been to work in a long time and haven't seen him in that time it's nice to see him on the telly.
Someone recently told me that one of their friends was, unknown to them, in Beauty and The Geek.
Anyone else had that happen? Someone you'd say was a friend/acquaintance show up on the telly?
side story: An offy got robbed here twice and was a short feature on Crimewatch. The next day at work I was approached by two different people saying they were sure I was the person doing it. Worryingly only one knew I lived seconds away from the place. Recently I've been told by local people that they were sure they saw me walking my dog when it wasn't me. The funniest being that one hid in the bushes making wanking noises hoping to shit me up when he comes (so to speak) running out of the bushes. Only he had to shut up and stay hidden when he realised it wasn't me.

I've seen loads of people I know on the TV from racing. With drivers I know being interviewed, interviewers that I know (some of which are now presenters) and also people I have worked with being interviewed/working in the background.
I've been on TV in that respect a few times too. Although I ducked out of being interviewed the two times I was asked, as it ain't my thing.
One of the people Emma went to school with is now a model for some clothing brand or other. His (slightly gay looking) face kept popping up in shops all over the place, much to her consternation.

I went to school with Henry Luxemburg, and he went on to star in Hollyoakes, and suddenly he was 'fifth sexiest man in the UK', FFS.
I was also on insulting terms (you know, someone you know well enough to call a cock and not worry about it) with Sid 'Ricky' Owen a while ago.
My dad sometimes shows up on telly with the racing cars, and my mate Andrew Little became semi-famous (in the crap way) a few years ago because he was Anoshka's (sp) boyfriend (you know, that slapper one on Big Brother that got kicked out in the first week), so he showed up in the Sun and on E4 and all that.
Sul - What's 'the best dive in SE1'?
The Charles Dickens on Union Street. Not a dive anymore, sadly.
I went to Park View in Chester-le-street and a couple of years below me was a girl called Lindsey Ward.
Imagine my amasement when in 2001 I saw her on TV accusing her boyfriend, Brian Lara, of abusing her!! Turns out she won a competition in 1999 and is like a glamour model!!
THEN not so long after that, she was in FHM!
She was a moose at school too!!
I used to "move in circles" that meant I met lots of z-list people most of who are still z-list people or work in Tescos. However, 2 of them are on the UK a-list now, one on 'b' and one on another list that could be a, b or c depending on your opinion of him (very much a marmite comedian).
I still get Christmas Cards and the occassional email from one of the 'A' list people. But it is strange seeing any of these poeple on TV whether on Prime Time BBC or buried away on some unknown cable channel (or on the radio) and thinking "you used to be a struggling actor/stand up/writer and I used to fix your computer/train you".

Fiver says Jimmy Carr innit.
yeah the marmite thing suggested the same to me too.
i've been bewildered by his TV success/ubiquity but i've now had about 3 people tell me that yes he's complete poo on the telly but that his standup is outstanding. so i've retracted judgement until i get a chance to see him live.
That standup DVD seemed to be just an hour and a half of his sub-Jack-Dee-deadpan-but-with-a-nasty-taste-of-Davidson-bigotry TV stuff.
It works for 5 minutes at a time as he links comedy shows or 100 greatests... but an hour and a half of the stuff is a little bit tiresome.

I find him very, very funny - I'm going to see him live in a couple of months so I will report back on that (or, more likely, I will forget).
I admit to laughing to some of the stuff he says when presenting. But as I was saying to Sul the other day, it's of no better a standard than a group of mates in a pub could come up with.

Al Murray is still my comedy hero =]
Was he the guy in Ghostbusters?

Grim..., around 11th March 2006:
That was Bill Murray.

Al Murray is 'The Pub Landlord' (and he was born and schooled in Bedford).
no, that's Al Slimedme you're thinking of
that pic looks like he's proud of his "buttplug of the year" award
(previous line devoid of personal opinion re its butt's comedianic ability, merely presented for comedic effect)
(and cos that's wot it looks like)
haha! (ouch! he'll need a bit of lube with *that* one!)
