Today, the Evening Standard screams about the above on it's front page. Some woman who survived 7/7 (God, I hate that name) completed the London Marathon yesterday.

Now, forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't everyone who completed the London Marathon survive the London Bombings?
Posted by Brock, around 24th April 2006:

Um. No?

How did someone from Kenya that is competing in the Marathon survive a bombing? Or me? Or you? Or someone from Australia? By 'surviving', they are saying that person was involved in the bombing, ie on one of the trains or buses or nearby.

How is that so hard to understand?

You are forgiven for being wrong.

They didn't fucking die, did they?

Dear oh dear - this was so obviously a joke...
Posted by Brock, around 24th April 2006:

Really? Shouldn't it have been funny, then?

What's her name, as I think I know her...
Posted by Grim..., around 24th April 2006:

Dunno.
If you're really interested, I could grab a copy?
Posted by Grim..., around 24th April 2006:

(You'd owe me 20p, though)

Turns out it is who I thought it was. She's a work colleague who was seriously injured in the bombings, so this was a *massive* achievement for her when at some point it was thought she may not walk or see again (thankfully, she eventually recovered). Not seen the picture though (I had the vest printed for her, wouldn't mind seeing how it turned out).
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around 25th April 2006:

Pffft. There have been plenty of times when I thought I might not walk or see again. Noone congratulates me for a running a Marathon... or... you know... achieving anything that I actually did do.

AP: I dropped into a couple of newsagents on my way home but they were all sold out. T'was the paper from the evening before, see.
Sorry.

she could try and look a bit bloody happier about it..

;)

She does look like she's got a bit of a 'fuck you terrorists!' smirk.

But that fat, useless twat Jade Goody didn't finish. She said she couldn't be arsed to train for it and had been on a special curry and Chinese take-aways.
Posted by Grim..., around 25th April 2006:

Um - did you stop writing that out of choice?
Posted by Grim..., around 25th April 2006:

The Guardian-- Goody, among 708 runners from 32,598 who failed to cross the finish line on Sunday, said her nominated charity, the NSPCC, would receive the £355 sponsorship money she raised - slightly less than the £1.2m world fundraising record from a single event Sir Steve Redgrave is set to break.

No, thats out of order.
So it was only £355, so what? If you're not going to get a grand, don't bother?
Twats.

Race director and former 10,000-metre runner David Bedford said it was a shame for someone not to use their place properly after 90,000 people applied for fewer than 34,000 places.

Perhaps you cunts shouldn't have given her a place just because she was 'famous'?

"90,000 people applied for fewer than 34,000 places."

What an odd thing to say when it clearly says that there were 32,598. Did some just not turn up to run, or is it actually "fewer than 33,000" places? Marketing spin? Is trying to round it up to 34,000 more impressive somehow?
Posted by Brock, around 25th April 2006:

I was going to agree with your last line, but I'm not because you made a point about us agreeing in the other thread.

:)
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around 25th April 2006:

No no. It reads that Goody was among 708 runners of the 32,598 who failed to cross the line when she said the NSPCC would get her charity money. Clearly 32,598 non-finshers had fucked off home.
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around 25th April 2006:

Totally agree with the dig about the charity money. Cunts. No need for it.
Posted by Brock, around 25th April 2006:

Yeah. She's clearly never going to have any friends, so who the hell is she supposed to ask for money?

(The annoying, loud-mouthed thick cow)
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around 25th April 2006:

That was probably that weeks fee for her Hello exclusive. I feel sorry for her. Hello probably want the extra £100 sponsor money back now too.

I'm trying so hard not to mention that greengrocer's apostrophe :(
Posted by Alfie_DUPE1, around 26th April 2006:

failed
Posted by Brock, around 26th April 2006:

Greengrocer?
Posted by Alfie_DUPE1, around 26th April 2006:

Greengrocer...
(Perhaps you cunt's shouldn't have given her a place just because she was 'famous'?)
Posted by Brock, around 26th April 2006:

Ah. I see the ap'ost'ro'ph'e error now. I still don't get the Greengrocer reference, mind.
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around 26th April 2006:

It's just a term I think, isn't it? Giving something a posessive apostrophe when you mean a plural. From greengrocer's signs of "20 Apple's for £5" and the like.
Posted by Grim..., around 26th April 2006:

All gone now.
It's a bit hard to take from someone who doesn't use captial letters...
Posted by Alfie_DUPE1, around 26th April 2006:

i take my lead from our glorious leader, who seems to have abandoned capital letters entirely.

(what do you mean all gone? still there innit?)

(Hmm. Dunno what happened there)
Posted by bumdog, around 26th April 2006:

I agree witn mr saad.

Well said.
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around 26th April 2006:

I disagree. How anyone can agree with such a statement is preposterous. Clearly both saad123 and bumdog have no idea what they're talking about. It's sad really.
