But it's probably a bit naughty, and if people find out about it, they'll shut it down.

So Cal - can you de-search engine this thread, please? Then I'll tell you all about them.

Brilliant.

In the mean time, email it to me.

:)

Posted by Grim..., around May 2006:

Sorry about the wait =]

The first is www.channelchooser.com , which lets you pick from a load of TV channels and just watch - the four adult channels are very much NSFW.

To watch whole episodes of your favorite TV programs whenever you want (including Scrubs and Thundercats - yay), check out peekvid.com .
Posted by Grim..., around May 2006:

I've just watched the first episode of series two of Thundercats and... What the Hell?
Did we never get series two in the UK?
Who the hell is that blind thundercat? Who are those bad guys? Where are Tigra, Cheetara and Panthro?
And since when did Mumm-ra have a dog?
Posted by ellipse, around May 2006:

i think www.channelchoser.com doesn't work anymore, i just get one of those ad sites
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around May 2006:

www.channelchooser.com
Posted by Brock, around May 2006:

So the adult channels are not safe for work?

/me takes notes.

Thanks for the scoop. :)
Posted by ellipse, around May 2006:

i'm not sure what's more scary
the baby channel or the men in lingere channel

Oops, yeah sorry, I was a bit tipsy=]

Ooh! What is a search engine spider?
Posted by Grim..., around 7th May 2006:

Do you know what - I've go not idea, and I have absolutly no clue as to how you could find out.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around 7th May 2006:

You're being very helpful today! Is it your way of welcoming the noob?
Posted by Grim..., around 7th May 2006:

Well, he's got to learn.
Posted by WarHead, around 7th May 2006:

This is a worrying turn of events.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around 7th May 2006:

I know. Grim being nice. That scares the shit outta me, it does. I would be less scared if Brock out and said something to me.

Well, maybe not.

Hell's teeth, it's bloody freezing here. I have the heater on full blast and I still look like I'm happy to see you.
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around 7th May 2006:

Perhaps your sarcasm was masked rather too well eh, Grim...

I'm liking that Peekvid alot. Channelchooser isn't liking me too much. NASA TV and the Chatshow one are about the only ones that work for me. Will have to have a play about. Though the adult channels sound interesting until you realise you're on the net which, I've heard, contains a fair few websites of the adult variety.
Posted by Grim..., around 8th May 2006:

Maybe. I propose that we use #'s at the beginning of sarcasm in future, for example:
# Really? Christ, I didn't know that
# Sul likes Stella?
# Do you know what - I've go not idea, and I have absolutly no clue as to how you could find out.

See, I try to keep peekvid out of the search engine spiders and Cal drops it on his front page, and credits someone else for it.

Bah.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around 8th May 2006:

I did know you were being sarcastic. You really wanted to say :

WE ARE NOT YOUR GOOGLE BITCHES. GO HERE : www.google.cum
Posted by Grim..., around 8th May 2006:

But that wouldn't be sarcasm, would it?

I'll stick to the #'s.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around 8th May 2006:

Your bait of falsehood takes this carp of truth.
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around 8th May 2006:

minor syntax note: "#" has historically been used in many computer fields to flag up a thing-to-be-ignored ("comment"). and when i say "historically", i can guarantee at least 30 years.

a hilariously hysterical site (declared "a social experiment" and it very neatly turned into "lord of the flies") has added one nice concept to the e-world: they use "%" as explicit sarcasm markers. this neatly misses most current tech-tools' markups AND has no previous normal use so will automatically flag even to the unenlightened that the enclosed text is somehow to be read differently.

so (i hate to encourage the originating idiots but i'm a geek not a wonk so the result's the thing) maybe %s?
Posted by Grim..., around 8th May 2006:

% it is, then.
Let's just hope no-one gets confused about it being the wildcard in SQL.

%this is a very interesting thread!%

%Your opinion is important to us%

(It was a sitter. It had to be done. :) )
Posted by Grim..., around 8th May 2006:

I'm not conviced they have to go at both ends - it's not a markup language =]
Posted by Grim..., around 8th May 2006:

But, of course, I'll bow to pressure =]

% We care what Syl thinks
%We care what Syl thinks%

Which one?
Posted by Brock, around 8th May 2006:

I still think we should leave them off and tell the people that miss the sarcasm to go fuck themselves. I only used them cos it fitted with the gag.
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around 8th May 2006:

i think we immediately catapult it into a Markup Nazi thing

purists should do %this% at all times
%should%

everyone else should have a stab at fullmarkup but everyone will understand if they just (clearly) prepend solitary lines with it
%everyone will understand%

%i'm sure we'll all forevermore be gratified by the extra opportunities offered by this syntax to refuse to read what was intended but rather to flounce about a particular mis/re-interpretation [/extrapolation]%
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around 8th May 2006:

yay for nearby building site's interference knocking us off the net long enough for an intervening post to muddy my follow-on

Posted by WarHead, around 8th May 2006:

Ahem, MS-DOS uses %sometext% to denote a variable name, but that need not worry us.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around 9th May 2006:

The reason I think the %'s should be used on both ends is because one may suddenly stop being sarcastic in the middle of a paragraph. For instance, if Brock had said %Your opinion is important to us. (it was a sitter, it had to be done [you did all your sitters didn't you, Brock? That's why your parents got Merv Skilton to look after you in the end]); we would think that the second part of his post was also sarcastic. Which it wasn't. And:

[Thine] breath stinks with eating toasted cheese.
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around May 2006:

*THUD*

Has it really come to this?
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around May 2006:

Peace, good pintpot, peace, good tickle-brain.
Posted by Grim..., around May 2006:

Ah but Sul, you surround your onomatopoeia with *'s...
