i vote today for:

PETA!!

"bears are big and fuzzy and take cute photos, therefore we must treat them differently from other less-attractive or smaller animals."

"bear! geddit! "bare"! bear!!"

It's true, PETA are famous for ignoring the plight of all other animals. What's on their website today?

Monkeys, Vegetarianism, Rabbits and Sheep.

Bloody bastards.

May I nominate Tom Hanks? I don't know WHY they cast HIM in The Da Vinci Code. I detest him! Argh!
Posted by WarHead, around 22nd May 2006:

Well, why would you know why they cast him? I don't either, but for some reason casting agents never consult me about these things.

1. Mikhail Y@ckson - let's see if some "he's inner-scent" googling toss-pot finds his way here from that spelling.

2. Justin fucking bastard Lee twatting Collins.

3. P@ris Hiltown

4. All past/present/future Big Bother contestants.

If we're nominating Hanks can we also have Denzel Washington who also seems to only play that nauseating 'everyday chap' role too?
Posted by WarHead, around 22nd May 2006:

You can nominate anyone you like, dahhhhhling.

What we can't have is A FUCKING POLL for when we've finished nominating nominees.

i didn't say "all", i said "less-attractive or smaller".

the greater the non-anthropomorphism, the lower PETA's interest.

octopus, squid, halibut, lobsters -- all are habitually put to death in far more gruesome fashion and in far greater numbers and far more carelessly than monkeys and rabbits (tho maybe sheep could match them for numbers). but: ewwwwww! slimy! claws! nothing that looks like a face!

"charismatic megafauna" -- PETCM. PETA is about people looking for status by squealing self-righteousness by appealing to the cuddly/shock factor, not about actually caring about animals.

here's a thought-experiment -- how are most fish killed?

why aren't PETA protesting?

By that big bastard heron that keeps raiding my neighbour's pond.

what, that HUGE bastard heron?
Posted by syl, around 22nd May 2006:

Do they suffocate to death? (fish)
Posted by Doctor Lucid, around 22nd May 2006:

Sal; about half of their website seems to be about promoting vegetarianism; therefore less killing of fish. And how better to promote vegetarianism than by getting people to go to your vegetarian website to see pictures of sweet furry animals being brutally killed?

Whether or not it's mercenary to promote vegetarianism is a different kettle of fish.

In fact the first thing i got through the post from PETA was a sheet of stickers with a fish on and "Fish are Friends, Not Food" on them.

So saying that PETA put cuddily things higher up the agenda is total bollocks.

OK so they stole the line from Finding Nemo, but you can't have everything

"So saying that PETA put cuddily things higher up the agenda is total bollocks."

Cuddily was perhaps the wrong word. Fashionable is correct.

In fairness, PETA aren't too bad.

But people that blow up the cars of the people that supply cheese to the people that make the sandwiches for the people that test on animals are.

hard to think of any harsher rebuttal of "put cuddily things higher up the agenda is total bollocks" than your own words: "Finding Nemo"

Fish cuddling is quite a difficult art :)

Before I die I'd like to tickle a trout. I hope they're not extinct by the year 2069.

PETA have broadened their anti-fur campaign, and are now encouraging women to shave their own fur in solidarity.
