I'm looking for a good digital camera.

(I've hunted hi and lo for Miki's request for advice from about a year ago...can't find it)

Any recommendations?

first what's yourt budget
second what things are important to you?
for example
AA batteries or lithium?
Megal pixel preference?
are you taking snaps, art photos, macros?
what's your budget?

there are some threads on cameras in flickr central, takes a bit of hunting but it could be a good place to start

Mine's good, it's a Canon Digital Rebel (which is 300D in English).
They're really cheap in New York, which is where I got it from.

Eh... You can get them on eBay from the UK for about £300 - £400.

Thanks Ellipse and Grim.

I would like to take some interesting "arty" photo's.
Not just holiday snaps, or that kind of thing.
Budget R2500 (equivalent to £200 or $350) - bit shitty, I know, won't get much for that will I? (that's how it is being on the arse end of any exchange rate except for the Zimbabwean dollar) haha
Does the pixels refer to the resolution?

Yes, but hundreds of Megapixels don't automatically equal good quality, it's more complicated than that - you have the lens and the sensor to take into account at least...

Eish. That's a lot to learn about! I'll take me brother with me.

Be aware that a good camera does not make you a good photographer.
I'm living proof of that.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, 21st June 2006:

Nonsense. I'm sure your photo's are lovely.
It doesn't make one a good photographer, but it certainly helps a bit!

photo's

Deary me.

Actually I don't see that as incorrect as Photo's = contraction of Photographs.
Posted by Grim..., 21st June 2006:

Yup, she's quite right.
Fall back, Warhead - you just committed the worst of the peeeeeedant sins...
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, 21st June 2006:

Unless it's a plural of the contraction in which case she's wrong.

Ah warhead, you're "moded" : www.urbandictionary.com
Posted by WarHead, 21st June 2006:

Well, was it a contraction of photographs or the plural of the contraction?
Posted by syl_DUPE1, 21st June 2006:

Er...whichever one is correct. ;)

I finally decided on a Canon EOS 350D. It's the most lovely thing I have ever owned. I am a happy chappy! Starting a course this month sometime...not sure when. Yay!
