Bastard fecking interweb shity bollocks!

I've been gurning around for several days, bemoaning the fact that iamcal is not accessible ..... and now I have just discovered it was because I was using aliases and bookmarks in Avant, IE and Firefox that were pointing to f.iamcal.com, which no longer work.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around 27th July 2006:

Oh. That's why you've been so quiet. You mean since we spoke last week, you've been unable to get in? I thought you were just busy with your phone bollocks. You also didn't reply to my mail. :(
Posted by WarHead, around 27th July 2006:

Well, I have been busy with the phone stuff as well as not being able to get in since about Monday. Sorry about the mail; I'll try not to forget that I owe you one.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around 27th July 2006:

Ah, no. Don't worry. i know you are busy...send it when you have time. no rush.

BTW, I saw Get Carter for the first time last night. Not the one with Sylvester Stallone, the one with Michael Caine, and boy is that MC sexy. I didn't like the ending though. have you seen it?

f.iamcal.com?
Posted by WarHead, around 27th July 2006:

Yus. Don't you remember? On 3/5/05 Cal mailed the ex-iamcal mailing list and said

it's not open to the general public yet, but
you lot get to have at it a few days first:

f.iamcal.com

and so that's the url I've used ever since.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around 27th July 2006:

fucking iamcal dot com!
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, 28th July 2006:

Ahhh. I was offline around that time.

They can put a man on the moon, but they can't make bog roll that tears along the perforations properly.

Not every time, anyway.
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around July 2006:

I've often wondered (not hard enough to look into it) how they get the perforations in toilet paper.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around July 2006:

If you yank it really hard, it always works
Posted by WarHead, around July 2006:

Then it should have instructions telling me to give it a hard yank. It should be printed on every sheet. When I used to use paper with 'Government Property' on every sheet it tore perfectly every time. Mind you, it was like wiping yer bum with sand paper.
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around July 2006:

They used to put "Goevernment Property" on the friggin bog roll? hahahaha! Sounds Orwellian.
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around July 2006:

Those damn fiends, stealing my R's. Grrr.

Talking of grrr's and R's, my Dr. McNinja t-shirts came through the other day. I'm well happy with them. I highly recommend the WW[batman]D one.
Posted by WarHead, around July 2006:

Yeah, you can see a rather poor image of it here Govt Property

And some discussion about it here.
Posted by zxenor_DUPE1, around July 2006:

i'm trying to see it, but i keep coming up with "sherriwert fbupetny" and the like. is there any possibility of a better picture?
Posted by WarHead, around July 2006:

Why can't I have a crap in peace, without someone asking me to dispose of a moth, or answer the phone, or asking me how long I'm gonna be?
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around July 2006:

Oooooh I know this one... because you are... errrr... oh how does it go again? Oh I remember:

Riddle me this,
Riddle me that,
Why does peace,
Not take a crap?

Because you are GOD!
Posted by WarHead, around August 2006:

Er, OK, ..... er, I have nothing further to add at this time.
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around August 2006:

Ha! I win!

Why the fuck is Fatboy Slim popular?
Posted by Grim..., around August 2006:

Because he makes fucking brilliant music.
Next question?
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around August 2006:

www.fatboyslim.net

"Because he makes fucking brilliant music."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Classic.
Posted by WarHead, around August 2006:

What instruments does he play?
Posted by bumdog, around August 2006:

Somebody please answer Warhead's question. It's perfectly valid and, quite frankly, I'm stumped for an answer...
Posted by Grim..., around August 2006:

He used to play bass for the Housemartins. Nowadays he's far too rich (although I seem to remember that he can play bass guitar, normal guitar and piano from a documentary I saw).

Of course, you don't have to play an instrument to make music, as you well know.
I assume you know you have one of his best song titles in the topic subject?
Posted by WarHead, around August 2006:

Yes, I do. And the lyrics must be the most evocative and spritually uplifting in the annals of songwriting. The complexity .... well, it overwhelms me.

It's as though Shakespeare is alive and well and knocking out chunes, innit?
Posted by WarHead, around August 2006:

Oh, and playing bass for the Housemartins is nothing to be proud of.
Posted by Doctor Lucid_DUPE1, around August 2006:

Good point. Although I don't think FBS was ever trying to sell his music on the basis of the lyrics. I imagine many other bands/musicians would suffer the same treatment if you were to just put their lyrics up here.

I shook his hand and said goodbye
Ran out to the street
When a bowling ball came down the road
And knocked me off my feet
A pay phone was ringing
It just about blew my mind
When I picked it up and said hello
This foot came through the line

or

Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul

I know who I'd rather listen to, however...
Posted by Grim..., around August 2006:

WH: Maybe not, but being an hoooooooooge international success and headlining Gatecrasher is.

He also played the guitar on some tracks on Palookaville.
Posted by WarHead, around August 2006:

I can't help feeling that he's thinking, 'What absolute shite can I con the public into buying in unbelievable shitloads? I know, I'll repeat the same music phrase over and over again, about 150 times, with the same two lines of lyrics that mean absolutely nothing. Surely no one would be so stupid as to buy it ....... good grief, they did."

/exit stage left, laughing all the way to the bank.

And with his hand down Zoe Ball's Pants. The fecker.
Posted by WarHead, around August 2006:

But she looks like a Gerry Anderson character.
Posted by zxenor_DUPE1, around August 2006:

due to his nature of sampling for his lyrics, i would compare his lyrics to that of other samplers, going back to this track by steve reich:

I had to, like open the bruise up and let the bruise blood come out to show them.
I had to, like open the bruise up and let the bruise blood come out to show them.

come out to show them
come out to show them
come out to show them
come out to show them
come out to show them...

I'd say fatboy is well within the standards?

Steve Reich is a differrent kettle of fish altogether. For one thing, he's not really popular in Ibizan clubs and is never likely to be. As far as similarities are concerned, 'Come Out' gets on my tits as well.
Posted by zxenor_DUPE1, around August 2006:

well, electronic music is based quite heavily on the minimalist tradition. moreso than the jazz/rock structure, which seems to be what people are comparing it to. there's no verse/chorus because there isn't meant to be. *shrugs*
Posted by syl_DUPE1, around August 2006:

This type of music reminds me of the music of the proles in the book 1984

Yeah, some of it is. But even though Reich often gets on me tits, I have more respect for what he's trying to do with something like Different Trains than I do for Cook, who I think is just trying to make a fast quid.

"Under the window somebody was singing. Winston peeped out, secure in the protection of the muslin curtain. The June sun was still high in the sky, and in the sun-filled court below, a monstrous woman, solid as a Norman pillar, with brawny red forearms and a sacking apron strapped about her middle, was stumping to and fro between a washtub and a clothes line, pegging out a series of square white things which Winston recognized as babies' diapers. Whenever her mouth was not corked with clothes pegs she was singing in a powerful contralto:

It was only an 'opeless fancy.

It passed like an Ipril dye,

But a look an' a word an' the dreams they stirred!

They 'ave stolen my 'eart awye!

The tune had been haunting London for weeks past. It was one of countless similar songs published for the benefit of the proles by a sub-section of the Music Department. The words of these songs were composed without any human intervention whatever on an instrument known as a versificator. But the woman sang so tunefully as to turn the dreadful rubbish into an almost pleasant sound. He could hear the woman singing and the scrape of her shoes on the flagstones, and the cries of the children in the street, and somewhere in the far distance a faint roar of traffic, and yet the room seemed curiously silent, thanks to the absence of a telescreen."

"on my tits" hahahaha!

There's a nice name for a 21st Century band : "The Versificators"
