Most of us like Top Gear so most'll know little Hammond has had a bad accident.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england...

Thought I'd start a best wishes thread in hope of no need for the normal, worse, one.

Bad news indeed. I'm sending positive vibes.

According to BBC News 24, the hospital says he's stable now rather than critical. So good news before I go to bed then.
Posted by WarHead, around 20th September 2006:

Glad to hear that. Jet propelled cars are rarely a good idea.
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around 20th September 2006:

bloody hell. hope he comes out of it ok.
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around 20th September 2006:

on the basis that he DOES:

"A spokesman for the hospital said Mr Hammond was "stable"" but that Mr Clarkson clearly wasn't.

and did anyone else read the thread topic and go "HELL YEAH!" and then "oh, wait, hammond"

Don't know him, but I'll say a little prayer anyway

"Hark at Aretha dere"

It took me far too long to realise that "dere" meant "there". I was racking my brain thinking it was a surname and was some obscure joke. I'm an idiot.

Now you know what we do, Sul.

i just read "The World According Clarkson" - compilation of a lot of his old sunday times articles.
about halfway through, one of them (In Search of a Real Garden at the Chelsea Show, Sunday 25 May 2003) starts:
Every week I strap myself into a monstrously powerful car and hurtle around a test track in a blaze of tyre smoke and noise. It's a constant battle with the laws of physics, and that's a dangerous game to play. One day, inevitably, it'll end in tears.

hopefully they'll be able to point out to the "health and safety" inquiry and the internal bbc witchhunt which have been instigated, that everyone bloody well knew the risks.

and that they knew exactly WHY they took them:
Still, in a good week the television programme that results attracts 3.7 million viewers, making it the second-most watched programme on BBC2.
Interestingly and rather annoyingly, we're beaten by "Gardner's World"
Posted by Alfie_DUPE1, around 22nd September 2006:

Who the hell is Gardner?
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around September 2006:

wayne gardner is an ex-world-champion 500cc (now MotoGP) motorbike racer of talent and renown.

jeremy's just upset cos every time HE tries it, he falls off. plus wayne's machines make better noises than his do. plus wayne's not fat.

ps, anybody who didn't buy today's sunday times, keep an eye on the website in the next few days for when they post jeremy clarkson's article re the accident. it's excellent.
also it drops in little details like hammond being awake and lucid(ish) --e.g., demanding to do another piece to camera after he was pulled out of the wreck, and replying to voicemails when he was in the ambulance-- until after he got to hospital at which point the bruised brain's swelling started to impinge on the skullspace.

say what you like about clarkson -- he's a hell of lot less FITH than 99.9% of other journos
Posted by WarHead, around September 2006:

FITH?
Posted by reitsma, around September 2006:

i'm guessing ITH stands for 'in the head'.

:o)
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around September 2006:

NO!
don't be stupid.
honestly, you internetians.
thick as two short packets.

it stands for Fucked In The Head.
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around September 2006:

it's an old north aussie uni acronym, originally part & parcel of the whole
"Brains * Beauty = A_Constant"

syndrome but now less restricted in scope, to the point of being generally applicable
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around September 2006:

oh wait, you wrote "ITH" not "FITH".
and "In The Head" not "Immanent Tonka Hydrophobe".

and i posted that on the internet.
christ, i'm an internetian.

i blame the pope.
everyone else seems to be doing the same, so i might as well jump on the bandwagon while the bandwagon's good.
