i found it strangely saddening to discover when looking for that clarkson article on-line to save me typing it, that google is unable to find even one single instance, in the entire universe of the internet, that gladsome phrase:
"hurtle round a test track in a blaze of tyre smoke and noise"

i guess this entry may go some way toward improving at least the google situation. but we need more hurtling. we need more blazing and noising. we need more OTT real life.

Louder than loud
Faster than fast
Over the top
Off the chart
Way past full blast

I think the main problem is that I'm not sure the word "blaze" can be applied to "smoke" or "noise" in the same way it can be applied to "inferno" or "glory".

Smoke can billow and noise can blare but rarely can they blaze. (A sentence which sounds like it could be some sort of proverb).

Can't the "glory" be implied with the "tyre smoke and noise"?
