Marksman called in to kill Kingston’s pigeons
A specialist marksman will carry out a "humane cull" of pigeons in the Memorial Gardens, Kingston's Town Centre Management announced this week.
The cull will be done by a private pest control contractor from Cobham as part of a three-year programme to reduce Kingston's pigeon population.

I agree with this action. Pigeons carry all manner of diseases like AIDS, malaria, rabies and mad cow disease to name but a few. They are also very aggressive and I can vouch for this as I was attacked by a flock and pecked severely while on my way home from flower arranging classes. In fact I would be more than happy to help in the killing of these evil creatures. Well done Kingston council keep up the good work.

This is preposterous! Pigeons performed a vital role in assisting communications in both World Wars and should therefore be encouraged to breed in higher numbers in order to remind us that we must never forget. Perhaps the money would be better spent erecting a large memorial of a Rock Pigeon or perhaps a Feral Pigeon - I'll leave that decision to the council. I don't think a Wood Pigeon memorial would be particularly appropriate because I don't think they did too much for us during the war. Other than food.

I'm horrified at the very idea anyone might want to harm these gentle creatures. I myself was raised by pigeons after being abandoned in Trafalgar Square as a young nipper. Therefore I know how noble and generous a species they really are. If anyone were to kill a pigeon in this way, it would be as though they are slaughtering one of my own family. It's murder, I say!

I know what you mean, reader. I was raised by yaks but I'm sure the experience was similar. How about a council worker cull instead.

I shall be writing to you often now that I have figured it out. Please send my love to Helen and the boys. See you soon Love Mum xxx

Can I just say that this letter column is rapidly degenerating into a farce, a French one with bedroom doors opening and closing and men running around with their trousers round their ankles and fancy women pottering about in high heels. And what's that got to do with pigeons? Nothing! That's right! NOTHING! NOTHING! NOTHING!

Dear Mr. Town Centre Manager,
You cannot destroy us. We too much strong.
All your borough are belong to us.
hey, Mr Stoat is an iamcaller...
You really are a laugh a minute today, aren't you?
I had too much caffeine yesterday. Someone gave me some "weight-loss" gum - the cheek. Turns out it was full of hoodia and caffeine. :/
even where i don't agree with him, i love boris johnson. for the same reason i (more guardedly) like ken livingstone. a politician acting Professionally, in the sense of focussing on trying to do the notional job rather than trying to feather his own nest, more focussed on his view than his social status, is a rare and valuable thing.
although obviously it would be better if they focussed on their constituents. but, you know, half a loaf is better than polonium.

Now we are only taking a family holiday, and I don't think Zeus or Jupiter would desire anything so extreme. A single cow would be about right. If I were an ancient Roman setting out on a family holiday, I would get some old milker and do her up as if for a party. She'd have her hair washed and combed and cut, and there would be ribbons and purple woollen fillets about her horns.
Then my chums and I would decently cover our heads and we'd drone loads of stuff in Latin and chuck some sacred meal about the place; and then one of us would hold a handful of food under the poor old girl's nose, and as she bent her head to snuffle it up we would take this — praise be! — as a sign that she had assented to her death, and at that auspicious moment she would be whopped hard on the side of the head and her throat would be cut; and then Jupiter would nod, and Olympus would tremble, and the whole family would be able to go off on holidays with a clear conscience.
THIS is valuable for geeky types. the new apple airport express is actually no longer a wifi router, it is now a Network Disk & Print Server.
better, the Disk (disks? not clear) it serves is not hardwired into the server but is merely plugged into it. this is awesome. only 5 years ago, this sort of functionality cost thousands of pounds. even 2 days ago, a network disk would set you back at least £100 over the price of its disk capacity, AND not only were you were hardwired into that fixed disk, but you were also forced to use windows files system, so you had really irritating file name & file permission restrictions.
unfortunately (insanely?) it's only USB2 rather than firewire, so bites the big one in terms of speed. (theo.bandwidth is NOT the same as throughput). but, still...

have you guys seen this? i've only just run across it: Google Trends. stick in a search query and it'll graph up how common it was over the last 3 years, then show where in the world people were doing that query from.
there's at least *minutes* of idle curiosity there.
eg, apparently 2006 was a big year for it, and living near the black sea seems to trigger it:
www.google.com/trends?q=ana...
doc's been fairly stable,
www.google.com/trends?q=+lu...
but his absence in september is now explained:
english.pravda.ru/news/worl...
oo! you can compare different searches in one graph if you put commas in.
if you stick some iamcallers in, it seems sul and cal are neck&neck in the global popularity stakes of people stalking them. mostly by brazilians too...
www.google.com/trends?q=sul...
"All humans used one single weapon against this danger. They started to resist with a crust which was welded with human brain and willpower. A coating which was formed by compressed human brain molecules was protecting the earth. Earth was turning into a dust cloud under every attack and was hiding behind the protecting shield."

Looks good. A quick flick through revealed a man jumping around with boulders attached to his legs, set to that iconic Star Wars fanfare: the Indiana Jones theme. Not enough of this in Hollywood.

I hate those damn quizmania things on TV. They're all a rip off, without exception. And they seem to be on so many channels late at night, even MTV.
Not that MTV has much actual
music on it these days. It's either Newly-fuckin'-weds, Pimp My Pile-of-shite, Celebrity Deathmatch, Cribs, Date My Milf, etc. etc. They should rename it STV.
Salty: It's quite disturbing that "bee's" has been given an aphostrophe.
Did you know 95% of domestic accidents happen at home? That's a fact!
WHAT? Never! I hope ITV News hears about this!
I work for a certain New York newspaper. They have certainly NOT heard about this. Maybe I should write an article on it. What will the headline be? Any suggestions?
