There should be an island, from which there is no escape but lots of cameras and the inmates should be shipped there and encouraged to butcher each other for our entertainment as non-murderers. With spoons or by spooning. Spoon Island it will be called. Presented by Brian Blessed and a naked Cheggers.

I agree. Baby-rapists for one. I really can't see the hope of rehabilitating such a person. They get out of jail and continue where they left off. Still not convinced we should be killing them though. Seems a barbaric thing to do. I wish there was some planet we could send them to.

[Edit]
Hello?
Rapists, baby rapists, murderers.... look at Barry George. He's spent the last seven years in prison for the killing of Jill Dando. Now there's a chance he might not have done it.
Thank goodness we don't have capital punishment.
To think they might have killed a man who changed his name to Barry Bulsara, declared he was Freddie Mercury's cousin, without any competetive roller skating experience, leapt over 4 double decker buses, and then got caught trying to break into Kensington Palace with a self-penned poem to Prince Charles. But didn't necessarily kill Jill Dando.
Not to mention killed an innocent man.
Posted by
WarHead, around 9th November 2007:
Perhaps we shouldn't punish people for crimes, in case they're really innocent.
Posted by
Sul, around 9th November 2007:
Freeze them, ala Demolition Man. Take the frozen body to a unit in the North Pole where the climate will keep them frozen, dramatically cutting costs and being environmentally friendly. If at a later stage they are found to be innocent, unfreeze them, ala Demolition Man.
I'm with Sul... although imagine the havoc if the pissed-up-yoof of Greenland sneak up there and 'steal' Myra Hindley or soemthing...
Oh, and WH I wasn't saying we shouldn't punish them... we just probably shouldn't kill them...

but my final reason is
If we agree that murder is wrong, and we are looking for a punishment for murder, how can that punishment ever be murder.

I'd be happy for rapists to be raped tho
punishment to match the crime and all that

Myra Hindley has a really bad press.
I think they're all just jealous of her superstar good looks
Posted by
syl, around 11th November 2007:
Looks like she was quite influenced by Ian Brady
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myra_... - not that I'm blaming it all on him - but I think she might not have committed such crimes if it hadn't been for him.
Posted by
syl, around 11th November 2007:
Brady convinced Hindley that there was no God, and she stopped going to church. She absorbed his philosophies, adopted his interests, and altered her appearance to suit him, bleaching her hair and wearing Germanic clothes. She had no qualms about allowing him to take pornographic pictures of her and of the two of them having sex. They intended to crack the pornographic market but failed. Brady nicknamed her "Myra Hess".
Posted by
syl, around 11th November 2007:
On 21 April 1966, the trial began at Chester Assizes. Prosecuting counsel was Sir Elwyn Jones. It ended on 6 May. Brady was convicted on all three murder charges and sentenced to three concurrent terms of life imprisonment. The judge described Brady as "wicked beyond belief" and "beyond hope of redemption", suggesting that he should never be released. However, the judge also stated his belief that this was not necessarily true of Hindley — and that, with the removal of Brady's presence and his influence over her, she might indeed be capable of a measure of rehabilitation at some point in the future.

Grim..., around 13th November 2007:
Syl: Imagine a man who is late for work. He is a business man, he's got his briefcase and his mobile and he's going to be late, and on the day of his big meeting, too. As he runs toward the bus stop, the bus he needs overtakes him, heading toward the stop at the other end of the road. Redoubling his efforts, he sprints toward the bus stop, giving it all he's got to get there before the bus, which has now started to let the first passengers in, can depart.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a woman appears walking a little yappy dog. The man gets his leg tangled in the dog's lead and goes down - hard. His briefcase falls open upon impact with the pavement and his documents scatter every which way. His change flies out of his pockets, and he can feel his mobile cracking as he hits the floor.
Looking up, the man sees the bus pulling away from the stop.
Now, instead of the businessman, imagine it was you.
And instead of the bus, imagine it was 'the point'.
No two white South Africans are the same.
No two 'baby rapists' are either.
Discrimination against
