:) anyone got any good jokes and/or cartoon strip funnies?
South African Schools
asseblief, I need a good laugh :)
Posted by
Brock, 15th November 2007:
Hmmm.
That's a 'joke' is it?
Posted by
syl, 15th November 2007:
Yep. Got any?
Posted by
Brock, 15th November 2007:
Not as singularly un-amusing as that. I think perhaps my definition of joke is the polar opposite of yours.
Posted by
syl, 15th November 2007:
well post an amusing one then
are we arguing again? fuck! we ARE like an ex-couple ;)
Posted by
syl, 15th November 2007:
I know you want me.
Posted by
Wolsey, 15th November 2007:
It really wasn't very funny though...maybe to a south African, but the point kind of gets lost in England.
Posted by
syl, 15th November 2007:
I guess so Wolsey.
Posted by
syl, 15th November 2007:
Wolsey tell us something about yourself. Or a few things. :)

Wolsey, 15th November 2007:
Ummm, I'm 30, knackered most of the time, am thoroughly addicted to the blog of Belle De Jour at the moment, and about to have a kebab for tea :)
Posted by
syl, 15th November 2007:
Yum! Well it's nice to have you here :)

It would be funnier if the kid said "White"
only slightly funnier, but still.
Posted by
syl, 15th November 2007:
Ah well.
the thing that bothered me most about joburg wasn't that all the burbs' houses had 8 foot brick walls round them topped with thick rolls of razor wire. it was that about every third house's razor wire had a large flattened portion.

che, 16th November 2007:
That's where Syl had tried to shave with it.

su, 16th November 2007:
oh
i got all excited about gne
i don't get the joke, but then maybe i don't think murder is funny
Posted by
syl, 16th November 2007:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
That was priceless.
Jokes, eh...
Q. What did the really fat man say to the slightly less fat man?
A. I've had more hot dinners than you've had hot dinners.
"What do we want? Palindromes! When do we want them? NOON!"
That's the best I can do in the circumstances.

I think I may have carpel tunnel syndrome from the MOUSE
Posted by
syl, 16th November 2007:
Yes. A dull ache in my forearm which gets worse if I bend the wrist palmwards. I spend all day using the mouse. Probably 11 hours a day. Can you help, Doc?
Oh, I see. Perhaps that is RSI?
Posted by
syl, 16th November 2007:
Is that repeated stress injury? I've no idea. Probably. I'm going to take some anti-inflammatories and put the wrist in a splint at night.

Repetative Strain Injury
11 hours a day? What job do you have?
Training lab mice? Pet shop?
I wish more people would ask Doc questions as if he was a medical doctor...
Posted by
Sul, 16th November 2007:
But Doc hasn't come back to the site :(
Posted by
syl, 16th November 2007:
I have heard wonderful things about your bedside manner, Doc.
Posted by
che, 16th November 2007:
Syl, if you keyboard has those little flaps at the back up so that the keyboard is angled up, then put them down. Its apparently better for your wrists. Also if you have a wrist rest then get rid of it. and try not to push your wrist against anything (like the edge of the desk) when you are using the mouse, this really mucks up your nerve.
I had problems when I started my job but after doing the things i mentioned, it got better within a week.

che, 16th November 2007:
Oh and I use the PC 9 til 5.30 and then probably 7.30 till Midnight so that probably counts as heavy use.
Posted by
che, 16th November 2007:
if your chair has arms it can help to have your (human) arm resting on the (chair) arm, and your hand on the mouse, with an "air gap" where your wrist is. (so its not touching anything)
Either that or lay off the frigging/wanking for a while.
i was with you up until that last bit
Posted by
Brock, 16th November 2007:
And now you are distracted in a cloud of frantic self abuse at the mere mention of it?
Posted by
syl, 17th November 2007:
Thank you Che, I will try all of those.
Posted by
syl, 17th November 2007:
Even the stopping wanking ;)

i'd invest in a graphics tablet, just a cheap wacom one. I can't actually use a mouse properly any more since i switched to a tablet full time. And Chay is right, don't rest your wrists on anything when you type.
alternatively just go out and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air a bit more and spend less time getting chucked off forums ;)
Posted by
Sul, 18th November 2007:
I don't know how you guys can use a tablet full-time. I guess I'm just not graphically creative enough or something :(
I also don't know how you can use a mouse without resting your wrist. Or maybe I don't rest my wrist. I remember comparing hand palm nubs with Salty. The hardened, cushioned growth (for want of a better word) at the bottom of the left of the palm before it becomes the wrist (for the right-handed). If I wasn't so drunk I'd make a diagram. You probably all have one though.

RSI OOS whatever you call it
is 8/10 caused by a bad computer setup
before you go buying new stuff read up on how you should be sitting etc
Posted by
Sul, 18th November 2007:
I'll say "pffffft". If you're gonna do something all the fucking time your body should get used to it. If not then you're shit and shouldn't be doing it. End of.

syl, 18th November 2007:
I'M SHIT AND SHOULDN'T BE USING A COMPUTER. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Posted by
syl, 18th November 2007:
Jeff, it's mainly my work though. I spend at least 9 hours a day clicking stuff on Excel and GFIS (Global Fin Info System)- there's no way I can get out of that. But I will try Che's suggestions as well as the anti-inflams and splints.
Posted by
jeffry, around 18th November 2007:
You probably do need to look at how your desk is set up then. The only techie at my last job who had RSI used to slouch back in his chair and have his keyboard and mouse way too far away.
I still think sunshine and fresh air are the way forward though
Posted by
syl, around 18th November 2007:
Aye, you're probably right. Went to the doc this morning too. She gave me Transact patches and anti-inflams and a lecture about spending too much time on the computer!
*goes outside to get some fresh air as prescribed by Doc Juffwamba*
P.S. typing with left hand
Posted by
su, 19th November 2007:
and do you have breaks every 15 minutes and stretch?
anti inflammatory's don't solve the problem
Posted by
che, 20th November 2007:
they just mask it

I try to maximise my time by limiting my internet usage to when I'm getting paid for it...
although that's probably rhe fastest way to get fired...
well, that or go all mental and kill everyone in the office
