So farewell then Woolworths.
I shall not miss thee

Actually I'd forgotten they still existed.

Mind you 25,000 jobs gone, that's not nice just before christmas.

Yesterday I heard that 85 000 jobs have been lost in South Africa over the last few months. It's scary.

Yeah, how could they be so careless?

A good quote from a street interview, the opening one from the report I saw on Ch4, was: "Now where am I going to steal pick n mix from?" I liked that.

Another person "They're always open, so yes its sad". Unlike all the other high street shops who seem to have such random opening times. :S

The brand will be picked up for sure. Who gives a fuck what they're going to sell? They hardly knew themselves. "Pick n mix, that's a winner. We get the kids and whilst theyre here get them in some school uniforms. The rest is additional win. Shove in some ironing boards and JML stands. The mums love that shit." It's the cheap DVD's and stuff that's gonna save them. That supply chain's a fucking goldmine this time of year. If they can sort the cash distribution out to save the jobs with that money I think they'll be okay.... at least til after Christmas.

Actually thinking about it, considering the whole DVD/Book distribution thing they've got going on, it could perhaps save them. Rack up the wholesale prices and force the supermarkets to run them as a loss-leader. They make fuck all on them as it is. Could work I suppose.

Edit: I mean save the company. They'll probably have to shut a few stores. Y'know. The less posh ones ;)

well that sounds like a career option for you Sul.

Which, let's be honest, is a step up from the garage forecourt job we had you pegged for.

Was talking to a friend of mine the other day and he's been in negotiations to buy the Woolworths site in St. Albans high street. I'm not sure if he can actually afford it, but they seem to be taking him seriously at the moment, even when he told them he was considering turning it into "an ice rink. Or maybe a capsule hotel."

Those suckers are going to be furious when they discover his real plans is to make it into a brothel.

oh i dunno. the "pic n mix" special is bound to win them over.
