"Unattractive woman can sing quite well" shocker (exclusive to all papers)
"When you see someone physically unatttractive no-one would believe that they could actually be good at something like singing"
"Wow, it's like a female version of Phil Potts or Paul Potts or Pol Pot or whatever his name was"

She's awesome. Her voice takes my breath away...

Jesus, she's not that good - not in anything approaching the level of hype. The only surprise was she looked like she'd growl like a bear.
My mum sings at least as good as that - she sang lead in the operatic society of a small town. There's any number of people in those sort of places that can match that sort of level. It's just a lot of them don't want to be on TV.

It's a sweet story anyway, Brock. Well it brought a lump to my throat and made me a bit teary. I was happy for her, for having her dream come true.

And I thought it took a lot of courage going up there, being a bit of a dumpy frumpy middle-aged lady. GO SUSAN! YOU ROCK LADY!

Well it's a good job for newspapers, tv stations and music producers that there are millions of people just like you Syl.

Why so cynical and cold? Does nothing touch you, ever?
Posted by
Brock, 19th April 2009:
Why so overly emotional and gushing about an average performance by a woman who can sing, just because she's ugly? Why should it take more courage to sing in front of people because she's 'dumpy and frumpy'?

She really wasn't, just "good". The Greek dancers were much better.

Syl - wasn't attacking you for liking the woman singing.
Was commenting on how what seems a lovely story at first glance, is actually a bit sick when you think it is based on people being amazed that this woman has a half decent voice despite being less than conventionally attractive. It says a lot about media and a lot about the way people have been brought up to believe that attractive people are better than everyone else.
There is no earthly reason why a physically "attractive" person would be able to sing better than an unattractive one. They don't have beauty pagents for vocal chords (as far as I am aware). But because 99.9% of singers/performers that we get to see meet the minimum attractiveness level, we are led to believe that ugly people can't sing. The reaction to the footage from Britain's Got Talent, shows everyone over compensating for this, giving the woman more credit for her performance than she would have gotten had they not presented her as a bumbling ugly virgin to begin with.
Sorry that was a little bit rambling.

Warhead : I expect mates to be nice to each other. Silly me, eh?
I think what's happened is as it's got quieter, only the brutish and the weak remain... it's a bit like The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle where the ape-men fight the indians.

"they don't call Brock 'the sewing machine' for nothing. Shame there's no thread on the bobbin."

I have to disagree, Doc. When I originally signed up it seemed that someone was getting flamed every day, even with a much bigger active membership.
Yes, but didn't everyone team up and flame the newcomers? I guess Brock and Abe flirted a lot as well ... and occasionally Che and Gary would have a big fight, AP would kick some pandas, Rosie would spray wee everywhere, and the endless cycle rolled on...
Maybe I've got rose-tinted Brock-style sunglasses?

Shuffling back into the closet?
"Brock! Brock! Where are you?"
"In a land of snow and talking animals. It's so peaceful here."

I know. He shouldn't deny his passion for Abe any longer.
What are you talking about Cal? Are you tired? Go to bed.
Oh.

careful there... in The Lost World, the weak pwned the brutish
