Is there anything greater, or more amusing, like, ever?.. I have everything up to the end of episode 8 on tape.. Red Dwarf is awesome.. It's sheer reluctance to ever let continuity stop it's inventivenes..the overuse of the word smeg.. tell us all how much you love red dwarf, and why.

I love it because it's always funny. Always. Never a bad show.

I love the first six seasons of Red Dwarf passionately but I was sorely dissapointed by seasons 7 and 8.
I don't know what it was but it just didn't seem as funny anymore.
Still the first 6 seasons are some of the best comedy writing or recent times without a doubt!!

I totaly agree with Luke, the first 6 seasons were amazing but I dont think it was the scripts that let down series 7 (8 was the script's fault), the problem with series 7 waws the fact that the acting had become so much worse, Danny Jon Jules (Cat) had lost his errr, ability to be the Cat, all coolness had been lost. As with Kochanski coming back in the form (and a very nice form it is) of Chloe Annett, she just didnt have the right stuff to be a Dwarfer, no-one beats Claire Grogan. And thats my opinion on that.

And a bloody good opinion it is at that :)

Yeah, 7 and 8 were lacking.. Once they brought back all the crew, they lost a lot of the essence of red dwarf, which was 4 people driving each other crazy.. And the loss of Rimmer as a fulltime character in 7 was a major mistake

Yep, have to aggree on the First Six series being the best. Much as I love it, why did they have to bring it back, when it really hit mainstream it lost its greatness. There was an episode where the only "joke" was that all the officers had errections. it really deteriorated into toilet humour. Yep it worked best with the core four characters and holly. What is it about TV execs that make them bring back classics just to ruin them, Ab Fab is back and not half as funny, They are making more Only Fools and Horses. why not leave a great programme while it is still great. John Cleese had the right idea with Fawlty Towers, 12 episodes, wall to wall comedy then NO MORE, no christmas special, special comeback or spin off series.
Also yes although bringing Kochanski back was bad for the show, Ms Annett is VERY easy on the eyes, escpecially in the PVC number.
And cat's acting didn't go down, the scripts did after one of the Naylor/Grant partnership left. The script made the Cat character just another Human crew member. nothing to rival the classic scene when Cat is spraying things, oozing cool and dancing down the corridors squealling "This is mine, and This is mine" :)
I still can't believe that Danny John-Jules (The Cat) is Barrington from Maid Marion and Her Merry Men. Now THAT is a classic show!

Here Here, does anyone know if you can get Maid Marrion and her Merry Men on tape, and while we're on the subject any idea if Red Dwarf will be coming out on DVD (my tapes are melting from over play, either that or my players bust)

Unfortunately the BBC has been crap in getting its classic tv series released onto DVD. I have a nasty feeling that we will have to wait a while for Red Dwarf on DVD.
However, if anyone has heard differently then please by all means correct me :)

I'm gonna eat you little fishy.... :D

Danny John-Jules in the first series is possibly the greatest TV appearance. Ever.
"Owwwww! That's mine! That's mine! That's mine! That's not..."
"Fish! Today's fish is trout a la creme... Fish!" etc.
And the Cloister episode is absolute genius.

"SMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDD"
Red Dwarf was always the show that was on too late for me to see when it first came out, so the whole pining thing, and then reading the books....they were ace finally getting to watch the series was superb. just so funny with a mixture of comedy styles. Always fantastic especially as they (okay so Chris Barrie, Norman Lovell and Craig Charles) do their own stand up aswell that is just brilliant. Also the ace people who did the extra's on the show, the voice of the food thing was great and has done loads of other stuff, and Paranonia aswell...
And yes Kryton in his first apperance when Lister explains what to call 'Mr.Rimmer'.....
I think the first two series actually kicked ass, the third one was quite nice, and it went a bit downhill from there in.
I think it's because they got a bit more money and tried to introduce 'adventure' rather than dialogue. Like, the one where they were stuck on the crashed ship in the ice all the time was blatantly one of the best later episodes.
My god, not only am I talking about a Sci-Fi comedy series, but I'm analysing humour. What the hell has happened to me?

Quick Doc! Abuse the crap out of one of my posts!! It will be like a cold flannel on your brow, and a chilled beer in your hand, in these times of obvious stress...
;)
Hah!
I'll have you know that there's more to Doctor Lucid than cussing you bad...

Sorry. Cussing me bad
and science fiction anorak.
Should have spotted that. My apologies.
Ooooh, Mr Brock, you are treading a fine line here...
That'd be like pinning you down to crude jokes
and sexual innuendo, or something like that. Way too many generalisations in this world..

everyone generalises everything though don't they?
It's true, otherwise we'd be submerged in a deluge of specifics...

Doc: you forgot crap jokes as well.
Try and be more accurate. Pretty much spot on otherwise, I reckon! ;)

I quite liked series 8, probably in comparison to 7 which was dire + the return of Norman Lovett

Does anyone remember the "never got past the first episode" sitcom starring Mr. Lovett? It involved him and a talking moose head. It wasn't very good though.
