I've just found this site after doing a google search for "what does atkins bad breath smell like" and found the most hilarious conversation EVER about it. I have had tears rolling down my face! So now I wanted to join in. "chocolate mice cause cancer in white mice"...ahh it kills me every time...

Victor Menendez, 10:45 14 August 2003 :

health reports are a load of shite,

red wine is good for the heart, red wine is bad for the liver
beer is good for the brain, beer is bad for the kidneys
garlic is good for the heart, garlic can cause melting in vampires
fish is good for the brain, fish is full of evil chemicals which will shrivel your thyroid
alcohol causes cancer in white mice
nicotine causes cancer in white mice
mobile phones cause cancer in white mice
chocolate mice cause cancer in white mice
has anyone wondered if white mice are prone to getting cancer?

You could spend your whole life chasing your tail trying to keep up with what the latest 'medical study' shows, IMHO medical studies have found that if research teams don't keep coming up with 'health revelations' then they don't get any more funding to continue their pointless research.

Diets, including Atkins, are one of THE main reasons why there are supposedly more obese people in America than ever before...although the #1 reason for this is statistical manipulation of the data which is most highly affected by the demographic change in this country over the latter half of the 20th century. In plain english, there are more middle-aged folks and senior citizens than there are teens and twentysomethings, so of COURSE there are more fat people. People over thirty gain weight or get wrinkles; it'll be one or the other, sometimes both. You have to live with it somehow, even though it makes everyone think you have an eating disorder even if you eat about 900 calories a day. It's either live with that, and somehow learn to disregard or ignore it... or else, you can choose to get depressed and/or off yourself. I chose to live with it.

The funny thing was, I was 280 pounds last September. I'm 50 pounds lighter than that now. Why? I didn't diet. I didn't increase my exercise past the three times weekly one-hour workout I have always been doing. Why did I lose all that weight? I know this is going to sound nuts, but I think I lost it because I stopped giving a fuck about how fat I was. The stuff going on in the world, with crazy Dubya and his gang of robber barons trying to take over the whole Earth and create a Roman style American empire, with a totalitarian surveillance state watching each and every thing we do, buy, own, read, eat, drink, smoke, inject, and think...

All these things scared me so much that finally the issue of how fat and ugly I am slid down to being secondary in importance--before that accursed 9/11 (aka "The American Reichstag Fire") event, my obesity had been my number one concern..For some reason that does not make clear sense, and is obviously not scientifically proven, I think that perhaps the very fear of being fat can cause one to put on weight. Maybe it is subconsciously parsed by the brain as "worry about food" and the result ends up being that it automatically causes metabolism to slow down enough to hold onto calories as a starvation prevention. Either that, or maybe depression about one's physical appearance just makes it worse by default because of the strain it puts on the body's energy.

This might be a whole lot of horse crap and twaddle. All I know is that all my life I've never been a heavy eater and even got sent to doctors as a child out of fear I would never be normal weight - in childhood I was way too THIN. As I hit thirty, though, I doubled my weight in only two years and gained more weight over the following five years after that. I tried diets and exercise programs up and down and backwards, forwards, left and right. I started lifting weights. I took amphetamine for a while. All that happened was that I gained another fifty pounds.

My weight did not start coming down until I stopped giving a damn about it. All I know is my own story, but maybe this has happened to others.

As for Atkins, that was the worst of the ridiculous diets I tried that year. The only weight one loses on Atkins, for the most part, iis water weight. It is a good idea not to overeat carbohydrates, but Atkins takes that principle to extremes that cause lots of problems: bad breath isn't the only one, there's also hideous body odor, ketone imbalance, faintness, weakness, and insanity because it's a bit hard to be a vegetarian and be on a diet that's about 80 per cent meat.

My diet: less beer, more spirits = drunk quicker, less chance to get a 'beer belly', less ability to cook, more exercise (swim home rather than walk home) and best of all - more time in the pub 'dieting'!

Oh heck!

Those are some of the wisest words I've read on here in a while.

Like when Lou Carpenter in Neighbours makes that grotesque noise and bokes up all his internal organs.
